Why Use Multi Clipping Path?

Multi clipping paths are an expert type of clipping path. Using this technique, you can distinguish each part of an image. After that, you can use them again in another image or simply edit them separately.

For example, you can use your own image and then distinct all the clothing parts from that image by using this method. Once the path is applied multiple times, every single thing on the inside of the path is added to the final product.

This procedure allows you to remove a specific image from its background, which seems like cutting an image out of a picture book with scissors. Here are some reasons why multi clipping paths are used for,

Removing background from an image allows you to distinguish and show products more efficiently.

For an absolutely new look, image color paths change the color of a product in a photo also efficiently perform multiple fillings.

There are various ways to remove an image background like hiding the background of any photo without actually removing the background. This is extremely useful for catalog designing.

Multi-clipping paths can also be used to select and edit a specific part or change the shape of an entire photo or parts of it.

With the help of this method, you can create as many layers as you want in Photoshop.

You can make any kind of change to forms of opacity, add or remove filters and effects or doing rotational change, etc.

Increasing or decreasing the size of an item or object in any image.

You can do color and tone correction. It also helps with any type of adjustment to an individual part of the image.

Multiple image shadows or textures or both can be added to the same image with this technique.

You can select discrete areas within an image with multi-clipping paths which can be used for specific area-based color corrections.

How to make Multi Clipping Path in Photoshop

Photoshop is one of the most used and favorite applications used for image editing of any kind. Most image editing companies use Photoshop for their work. So, we are going to be learning how to do multi-clipping paths in Photoshop.

Opening an Image in Photoshop-Opening an image in Photoshop is very easy. To do so, you just need to open Photoshop, find File on the top left-hand corner, and select Open. Then go to the directory where your image is and select it and click okay and the image should appear in a tab on Photoshop. You can also drag and drop the image with the Photoshop application open.

Selecting Tool-There are various ways of background removal with various tools in Photoshop. The most used and flexible of all is the Pen Tool. Pen Tool is used in vast numbers in most image editing companies.

You can use the toolbar (normally located on the left-hand side) and find the icon looking like a pen to click on it or just press the button ‘P’ to select Pen Tool.

Clipping Path of Jewelry

Take Path 4 Layer- Now that you have all the layers selected, we just need one final item to multipath. You can find the layer in the layer panel just like before. If you go to the layer panel you will see a level named ‘paths’ on the right corner. Click it and you will get another box for paths. Select the first path layers, click the square-looking icon from the downside right beside the remove icon. Click that icon, you will get your final path layer named path 4. In this layer, you have to make a clipping path of the jewelry and gems.

Draw Clipping Path Over the Jewelry- To change the image background of the jewelry in photoshop, you need to draw an outline of the selected jewelry. You need to do the same thing here as well. As we use the pen tool to select jewelry, we draw a clipping mask all over the jewelry. Zoom in with 100% to work more thoroughly. As model images can be more jagged, we have to be more cautious while drawing and planting the anchor points. If the anchor points are not allocated perfectly, the project will look dreadful. By holding down the ‘alt’ key, we can break the anchor points to move after putting the anchor points in the accurate places.

Draw the Gems- Now that you have selected the outer layer of the jewelry, you will have to select the gems. Not many people know how to remove the backgrounds of these images. You need to draw paths of these gems as well. As are working on the path 4 layers you have to draw a path over the gems in that layer too. There can be some small gems that can be hard to identify. But you need to manually look for these and create paths over these areas as well. You need to close these paths with the help of anchor points when you are done clipping.

Make the Selection- When the work is done drawing the clipping paths on outline and gems, you have to make a selection of the path area you have worked on until now. Go to the paths box and click path 4. Then press ctrl+enter which will make the selection you will see some dotted lines where you just made your clipping path. It means that the path has been selected. After making sure that you have made the jewel selection, simply press ‘Q on the keyboard and remove the background and separate the jewelry from the background.

Clipping Path of any Models

Creating a path all over and around the model is a necessary first step so that you can understand how you can do clipping paths later on the other things. Here is how you do it,

Take Path 1 Layer- Working on the path layer is important to draw a path. You can find the layer in the layer panel (normally on the right-hand side). If you go to the layer panel you will see a level named ‘Paths’ on the right corner. If you click it, you will get another box for paths. To select the first path layer, click the square-looking icon from the downside right beside the remove icon. If you click that icon, you’ll get your first path layer named ‘path 1’. In this layer, you have to make a clipping path all over and around the model.

Draw Outline over the Model-To change the image background in Photoshop, you need to draw an outline of any image that you want to remove the background of. You need to do the same thing here as well. As you have the pen tool already selected, you need to draw a clipping mask all over the model. Zoom in with 100% to work efficiently. As model images can be pretty curvy, you have to be very cautious while planting the anchor points. If the anchor points are not allocated perfectly, your work will be dreadful. By holding down the ‘alt’ key you can break the anchor points to move after putting the anchor points in their rightful places.

Draw the Loops- If your selected image has any kinds of holes or loops in them, then it is very hard to remove those backgrounds and not many people truly understand how to remove the background of those images. You need to draw paths of those holes or loops as well. As you are working on the ‘path 1’ layer you have to draw a path over the looks in that layer as well. There can be some small holes or loops which can’t be identified. But, you need to manually look for those and create paths over those areas as well. You need to close the path with the help of anchor points when you are done doing these.

Making the Selection-When the work is done drawing clipping paths on outline and loops, you have to make a selection of the path area you have worked on till now. To do this you have to go to the paths box and click on ‘path 1’. Then press ‘ctrl+Enter’ which will make the selection. You will see some dotted lines where you just made your clipping path. It just means that the path has been selected.

After making sure that you have made a selection, simply press ‘q’ on the keyboard and it will remove the background and will separate the model from the background.

Clipping Path of the Dress

Now that you have successfully done making the clipping path of the entire model, the work is yet to finish. To make multi-paths work, you have to make paths on every other part distinctly. Now you need to make paths over the dress to separate it from the model itself.

Here is how you are going to do that,

Take Path 2 Layer- Now that you have made a clipping path of the model on ‘path 1’ for the entire model but you can’t make a path for the dress on the same layer as well. To separate the dress from the model you simply have to make another layer and work on that. Just like before you need to go to the paths layer box again and click the square icon from the bottom to make another new layer named ‘path 2’. You can now make the clipping path of the dress on this ‘path 2’ layer.

Draw Clipping Path over the Dress- As you already have the pen tool selected to draw paths as you like, select the ‘path 2’ layer and just like before draw a clipping path over the dress. But be very careful because while making paths one can easily also take the skin of the model with the dress. You don’t need skins with the dress part of the path you are making. After making a path over just the dress carefully close the paths like before with anchor points.

Making the Selection- At this point, you know what to do. You have to make a selection of the path which you just made of the dress. So, just like before go to the paths layer box and select ‘path 2’ and press ‘ctrl+Enter’ on the keyboard at the same time and it just selects the dress part with the dotted lines. Now you just need to press ‘q’ to isolate the dress from the image and also to remove the background.

Clipping Path of the Shoes

While doing multi-clipping paths, it is just doing the same things over and over with different layers to make it work. Now you have made a clipping path over the model and the dress now comes to the shoes. Here is how you do it,

Take ‘Path 3’ Layer

You know how it works now very well. You can’t make paths for the shoes in the same layer because it won’t be a multi-clipping path then. So, just like you have done before go to the paths layer box and click on the square icon on the bottom to make a new layer for the shoes. You will find ‘path 3’ now and you need to start drawing clipping path over the shoes.

Draw Clipping Path over the Shoes- Now get started on the shoes. As shoes can be small depending on the image you have chosen. So make sure to zoom in by holding down the ‘alt’ key and spinning the mouse wheel up. You can zoom out by spinning the mouse wheel down. Now that you have a perfect view of the shoes by zooming you can start drawing a path over it. Again be careful that no skin comes into this. Make sure to make two different paths for two different shoes.

Make the Selection- I don’t need to tell you what to do now as you have done it twice now. Yes, you need to make a selection of the ‘path 3’ you have just made for the shoes. Just go to the paths layer box click on ‘path 3’ and press ‘ctrl+Enter’ to make the selection. Then by pressing ‘q’ you can separate it from the model and the image itself.
